THE RISE OF BIG DATA
We tend to think of the future as something that’ll just one day arrive, but this isn’t really the case. In many ways, the future has already been written; it’s just that it takes some time for the world to catch up. There are moves being made now that’ll have a big impact on the future of work, for instance. Perhaps the biggest development we’ll see in the coming years is the increased use of big data. There’s a lot of data in the world right now, but it’s nothing like the amount of data that we’ll see in the next couple of decades.
But of course, there’s a big difference between having data and knowing what to do with it. There are companies that have much of the data that they’ll ever need -- the issue is that they don’t have the key to unlock the potential of that data. The vast majority of data that currently exists (99.5%) has not been analyzed, and it’s not because they don’t think it’s worth investigating. It’s just that there aren’t enough people out there that could analyze it.
So it should go without saying that a person trained in the skills of data analytics will have a lot of potential when it comes to the job market. Indeed, in a time when the future seems to be dominated by big data, jobs in this field can be considered to be more secure than your average.
